The first Polish satellite SAT AIS EN is on table of privately held consortium of indigenous companies and scientific institutions on behalf of the European Space Agency (ESA). The satellite will be part of the security system for maritime traffic and special porpoise tasks including EU Border Control Program.Satellite will have 40 kg weigh. Part of the system will also signals transmitters terrestrial AIS Communications Station, flight control center and control of AIS data terminal, which will be made available to all users. All ground based infrastructure of the system will be located in Poland.
In building a satellite consortium of following companies will contribute: Creotech Instruments S.A., Hertz Systems SP. z o.o, Atos Poland S.A., Silesian Science Centre and Technology Industry and scientific institutions center, Lord Communications Institute, National Research Institute and Maritime Science Academy from Gdynia.
Sat AIS EN is the first Polish satellite with commercial premises. This project is realized in cooperation between Polish companies and scientific institutions. How complicated is this project can illustrate the fact that our satellite will be featured about 10 thousands of specific parameters, which we will have to keep up with.
The task of the SAT-AIS-EN will be collecting information from the automatic identification system (AIS) for the safety of maritime traffic. Automatic Identification System AIS allows you to receive broadcast signals from ships and in this way both the position of the vessel at sea, as well as other information, for example about the port of destination or cargo.
The system is mandatory for all vessels with a displacement of 300 tonnes of the high jump, floating in international waters; cargo ships of 500 tons of high floating of the local waters and all passenger units.
Conceptually, it was the ground system, which was supposed to prevent collisions at sea. Signals from ships were received by shore stations. For some time satellite dimension system. It is at the moment a couple of satellites, which orbit receive signals from ships. In this way you can increase system range from about 40 nautical miles from the shore to the global coverage around the world.
Thanks to the audience, which signals are mostly institutions and organizations responsible for safety at sea, have a full picture of the situation of maritime traffic. To prevent accidents, or intervene in an appropriate manner in the event of a collision or dangerous situations.
The data collected by SAT-AIS-EN will be delivered to the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) and Polish institutions: the marine Authorities of the Polish Army, border police, maritime search and Rescue Service. Foreign institutions will receive the data via EMSY.
The program will run for seven years. The first phase will last until 2017 and covers the implementation of a project mission and creation of architecture of subsystems. In the 2017-2020, during the second phase the creation of a prototype of the system and the proper satellite. The next phase is to be completed in 2022 year and will launch a rocket, which will go into orbit, mission and bringing a satellite from orbit upon completion of its mission. As we plan to launch around 2020, but it all depends on how well we implement the earlier stages of the work.
Each stage will have to gain acceptance of the European Space Agency. For now, the ESA to ensure resources for the determination of the parameters and design. Further measures will be awarded with the development of the project.
The cost of the satellite is projected to be several million euro, and the launch is about 30 thousand euros per kilo. The final sum will, however, depend on this in what functionalities will be equipped with satellite. In addition to the essential task, the device may support additional functions. measurement of atmospheric parameters, additional communication possibilities. Out in space there are two Polish satellite Lem and Hevelius. For their construction responsible is space research center and they have only scientific function. In space was also a scientific satellite student: PW-Sat is built by students from Warsaw University of Technology and Science.
