American and Chinese scientists believe that a controversial engineers new drive system for missiles actually works. Chinese researchers have tested an electromagnetic drive (EmDrive) according to its own figures, allegedly developed a thrust of 720 Millinewton. The scientists of the U.S. space agency NASA, which also are experimenting with EmDrive, want to have reached 85 Millinewton.

This is almost nothing: the first stage of the Saturn V rocket that launched the lunar landing modules of the Americans into space in the 1960s, had a thrust of 35 million Newton. Even if EmDrive should actually work, it is still a long way to the operational rocket engine.

Inventor of the EmDrive is the Briton Roger Shawyer, former employees of the German Aerospace Company EADS Atrium, which today belongs to Airbus. What the effect is based is controversial among scientists, if they are considering him at all seriously.

Therefore, the measured thrust is not based on errors in the experimental setup or when measuring.

Martin Tajmar, Professor of aerospace systems at the Technical University of Dresden, repeated the measurements at his Institute. He could “The effect of the EmDrive with my measurements neither confirm or refute”, he says fringe science in an interview with the online portal. His team have actually measured thrusts, he says “similar to the predictions of the EmDrive, but also in directions which actually null should arise”. The results could come from the magnetic fields of live wires cable. Therefore, he recommends more measurements.

The drive could accelerate space capsules when he realized it, be affected by any gravitational force that move so far from any planets and other celestial bodies. Then, already a low thrust for a steadily increasing speed ranges. EmDrive needs differently such as ion engines are already proven and in use, no fuel, but only electrical energy. You could deliver solar cells. Currently, yet traditional rocket engines are common in space capsules.
