New law in UAE: Jail for using VPN

People living in the United Arab Emirates can go to jail for using VPN. There have been introduced new rules that prohibit the use of technology in hiding identity. This Act is affected by a huge fine or a penalty involving deprivation of liberty.

Its hard to say if is good or not. VPN connection masking the real identity of your device allow you to bypass Internet censorship and the use of the services is officially banned in the country. Censorship is basically limitation of your freedom and incapacity of expressing free will.

New provisions introduced in the United Arab Emirates are that “anyone who, in order to commit a crime or prevent detection of identity connects to the network using a false address, or other methods of hiding the true location, shall be subject to a time restriction of liberty or a fine”.
