The gypsum board is generally used in the Interior of new houses. Because it is light and can be mounted quickly. In the context of his thesis in the field of “Sustainable architecture”, Robinson experimented with various organic compounds around for months. Out came a plate which is made of 75% grain waste, from agriculture. The inventor has called the plate “Breathaboard”, which means “breathing plate”.
“It is breathable, prevents condensation and mould in the home and can reduce such diseases such as asthma, triggered by moisture”, Robinson stressed. The breathability of the material reduce the need for mechanical ventilation, also what sink the energy requirements.
Another advantage of Breathaboard: The breathing plate is 100% compostable. Today 500,000 tons of gypsum waste incurred in Germany alone every year. Their disposal is expensive. In addition, landfill space is running out.
