Corn waste isolator in house interior

A British start-up, the portly construction industry wants to to shake vigorously. “Breathaboard” means the product which is to hunt down traditional interiors with gypsum plasterboard shares. This plate consists of agricultural crop waste to 75% and is 100% biodegradable.

The gypsum board is generally used in the Interior of new houses. Because it is light and can be mounted quickly. It is more difficult when it comes to decommissioning: then wander the plasterboard waste. Because they contain due to the production of toxic sulfates, they must be disposed as hazardous waste.

“Lots of klimat changing gases are created during the production of gypsum. “And what makes the whole thing even worse: after use, the waste lands just on the landfill”, Thomas Robinson says the Briton. “I thought, there’s got to be something better.”

In the context of his thesis in the field of “Sustainable architecture”, Robinson experimented with various organic compounds around for months. Out came a plate which is made of 75% grain waste, from agriculture. The inventor has called the plate “Breathaboard”, which means “breathing plate”.

“It is breathable, prevents condensation and mould in the home and can reduce such diseases such as asthma, triggered by moisture”, Robinson stressed. The breathability of the material reduce the need for mechanical ventilation, also what sink the energy requirements.

Another advantage of Breathaboard: The breathing plate is 100% compostable. Today 500,000 tons of gypsum waste incurred in Germany alone every year. Their disposal is expensive. In addition, landfill space is running out.
