30 meters diameter asteroid miss the earth by 0.16 degrees in 28/08/2016

We are alive, and lets hope this situation will not repeat again anytime soon. In August 28 2016, there has been an extremely close flyby of asteroid 2016 QA2. The asteroid failed to be notice and Brazilian telescope saw it barely a few hours earlier.

The flight came from 28 August, QA2 2016 maximum zoom around 03:24 AEST. The minimum distance between the meteoroid and the Earth was about 88 kilometers, thats 0.23 average distance to the moon. It was discovered on just a few hours earlier by the Observatory from Brazil.

The diameter of the 2016 LP10 on 16-52 meters, and it is probably 30 meters. It is slightly larger than the typical asteroids or meteoroids, which usually fly close to the ground. For comparison, the meteorite Chelyabinsk, 15 February 2013 fell apart over Russia, had a diameter of 17-20 meters. 2016 QA2 is so much larger, though possible explosion with at least a few kilometers above the Earth’s surface. Any damages would be comparable to those caused by car of Chelyabinsk, which is mainly would be related with a Shockwave. To the surface of the planet certainly suggest smaller and larger pieces.

This is a 27 detected close flyby of asteroid or meteoroid in 2016 and the first detected the flight from June 9. Is almost certain that in the second half of June, July and August, there have been close to the flights, however, due to the short nights in the Northern Hemisphere a large part of the ground, based astronomical observatories is not able to perform long observation of the night sky.
